Plus i have notice that the wonderboard is a little porous, so if the grout or tile doesn't seal just right, there is a chance for the water to seep in and get's to the studs.

That wall area is 2” of solid plaster on the cinderblock (no lath). I tried to chip it out but didn’t get far. What I want to do is butter 1/4 “ hardiebacker with thinset and ramset it with 2 1/2” washer fasteners to this portion of the wall, then tape/thinset the seam between the lower and upper wall, Redguard then tile.
